LIVING ROOM SETS SOFAS: LEATHER OR FABRIC?

The most important part of your home is the living room – the heart of your home. It is the room where you relax and enjoy watching TV, spend time with family, or have friends come over for socializing.
Deciding on what your living room should look like and how to decorate it is one of the most important decisions you make for your home.
Although you will find a plethora of different living room sets available in terms of design and layout, there is one very pertinent question regarding the seating options: leather or fabric?
Choosing your living room set is no doubt going to be for long-term use, and investing in the right living room set should not only be cost-effective but satisfying according to your preferences.
Here is a comparison of leather sofas and fabric sofas regarding your preferences.
Style considerations
In terms of elegance and style – leather sofas take the prize. Fabric sofas are not as appealing aesthetically as leather sofas, neither are they as trendy. However, fabric sofas are more easily available in different color themes and backgrounds than leather sofas. This makes choosing the most specific of sofas in color, shape or design a lot easier.
Suitability for Children
If you have many children, you really need to think about which sofa will best suit them. Firstly, if your children are susceptible to allergies, a leather sofa set is better for your living room needs. It doesn’t accumulate as much dust and bacteria as fabric sofas do.
On the flip side, leather sofas are more vulnerable to wear and tear despite being more comfortable than fabric sofas. Children who have their friends come over will most likely put it to hard use by jumping, rolling, and so on.
Moreover, the comfort level of leather sofas is extremely sensitive to weather conditions. For example, in the summer heat, it can get quite sticky and uncomfortable to sit on, especially for children. In winter time, on the other hand, it can get ridiculously cold and putting a blanket over your children won’t do much good either.
Eating on sofas
If you are one who barely eats at the dinner table except perhaps when having dinner with guests for instance, then you might want to consider the pros and cons of both leather and fabric sofas in this regard. Fabric sofas can very easily absorb food stains and liquids, something leather sofas are free of.
However, having removable cushions means that pulling out trapped food is far easier. Leather sofas do not have this luxury, as its cushions are fixed.
Maintenance
Leather sofas are very easy to clean. It requires a mere dusting to brush off dust and wipe stains, saving precious time. Fabrics ones on the other hand, require more time and effort to clean via vacuuming and daily cleaning. Also, as mentioned before, fabric sofas absorb dirt and bacteria far more easily than leather sofas.
Price
Pricing consideration is the most important factor in choosing either a leather or fabric sofa. In terms of which is more expensive – leather sofas are definitely pricier. Although fabric sofas can equally be expensive depending upon its design and color, leather sofas would far outweigh the price if design and color is kept fixed.
End Note
Buying a living room sofa set is a long term investment. Careful consideration needs to be given in terms of the aforementioned factors. If you are still not sure, seeking inspiration from magazines or the internet can help you narrow down your choices.
