SELECTING THE RIGHT DESK FOR YOUR OFFICE

For any office, having the right furniture makes a huge difference between having a productive and busy day, and a harried or disorganized one. Peak performance and efficiency can only be attained when people work in the right office desks, sit in the right chairs, and have relatively nicer workstations for a much happier outlook throughout the day.
As with anything else, choosing the right office desk, or even replacing with another, becomes very hard to do as there are so many choices available in the market. Which is the right one though? There are some factors that you need to consider before making the final decision as having the right office desk is very important as it makes work tasks seem more easily and comfortably done.
Identify How You Will Use Your Desk
This is the first step to determine what type of office desk you require. It’s very important to figure out the needs first, as a particular desk might not be suitable for a certain type of work and so on. Mostly computer work: If you need a desk mainly for computer work, it’s a good idea to select a desk or workstation that is designed specifically for computer use. In this case, be sure that there is a compartment space to hold the CPU (if it’s a desktop) in the office desk. Also look for built-in channels or holes to pass electrical connections from.
Some Paper-generating: You don’t want your office desk to look like a warzone because of all the important papers and files scattered around. Such a desk screams ‘disorganized’ which automatically lowers credibility in doing that job properly. Look for an office desk or workstation with plenty of cabinet and surface space.
A Combination of computer work, paperwork etc: If you do a number of different jobs at your workstation, an ‘L’ shaped setup is a good idea as it will allow you ample space to complete all your jobs in comfort and ease.
Ergonomics and Space, a Very Important Consideration
The concept of ergonomics, as you know very well, is very important and useful when picking office furniture because it allows you or your employees to work comfortably, efficiently and productively throughout the day. Following are some tips to help you find the right office desk or workstation.
  •  There should be at least 3 ½ feet of space when sitting behind the desk.
  •  Standard height required for most users is 29 to 30 inches from the floor, which should give ample space for your legs.
  •  The keyboards need to be put at a height that is comfortable for users. If placed on regular desks not meant for office work, there is risk of muscle strain and discomfort for the user.
  •  Equipment and other materials on the office desk should be placed within easy reach and have enough space as not to over-crowd the desktop.
